ACOLYTES (ALTAR SERVERS)

The Acolyte Ministry involves youth of the parish in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass by assisting the priest during Mass. They prepare the altar before Mass and enter with the priest carrying the cross and the candles. During the Mass they hold the Lectionary for the priest to read from and assist with the water and wine during the Consecration. Acolytes perform any additional tasks the priest may ask of him/her during the Mass.

The ministry of Acolytes is open to boys or girls who have received their First Eucharist and are in the 4th grade or older. Servers must be enrolled in a Catholic School or attend CCD classes (up to 8th grade). Servers are scheduled during the weekday 8:30am Mass if they attend St. Matthew’s School. Servers are also scheduled for the weekend Masses depending on their time preference.

Visit the calendars page for the acolytes schedule.
