Eucharistic
Ministers are Ministers of Communion, a title that identifies them
as ones who serve God’s holy people. Pope Paul IV authorized
special ministers of Communion to share the Body and Blood of Christ
with fellow worshipers in the assembly and with those confined to
their homes so that no one be deprived of this sacramental help
and consolation.
A
Eucharistic Minister must make the sharing of the Eucharist as personal
as possible; he/she must be truly present to others in the brief
moment they share with them in the act of Communion.
Seven
Eucharistic Ministers assist the priest in serving communion at
each weekend Mass and three assist on holy days. Eucharistic Ministers
are also asked at times to take communion to the home-bound.
Training
sessions are normally held once a year at a date set after the Ministry
sign-up weekend. Any one who signs up will be notified of the training
dates.
