Altar Server

The Altar Server Ministry

Summary:

Altar Servers, or Acolytes, help enhance the quality of liturgical celebrations by participating in the liturgical procession and assisting the priest during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Responsibilities:

Acolytes serve the life of the parish in liturgy through active participation in the Mass. They must be dependable, reverent in performing their duties, and respectful of the congregation.

Time Commitment:

Attend initial and refresher trainings as required, serve at Masses 1-2 times per month on a rotating schedule, and as requested for special liturgies.

Volunteer Requirements:

The ministry of Altar servers is open to boys or girls who have received their First Eucharist and are in the 3rd grade or older. Servers must be enrolled in a Catholic School or attend CCD classes (up to 8th grade). The server must be a member of St. Matthew's Parish. Servers are also scheduled for the weekend Masses, depending on their time preference.
